Les romains en Aquitaine<\/h2>\n

A leur arriv\u00e9e, les Romains trouv\u00e8rent sur la rive gauche de la Garonne un peuple diff\u00e9rent des autres peuples d’Europe, diff\u00e9rent des Gaulois. Les Romains ont diff\u00e9renci\u00e9 les Aquitains des Gaulois, ethniquement, politiquement, linguistiquement, culturellement et g\u00e9ographiquement en les assimilant \u00e0 aucun autre peuple connu.<\/p>\n

La sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9 ethnique des Aquitains ne fut pas entam\u00e9e car c’est surtout sur les plans culturel et \u00e9conomique que Rome eut un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif.<\/p>\n

En -10 av JC les Romains \u00e9tendirent l’Aquitaine jusqu’\u00e0 la Loire. Cependant les vrais Aquitains, ceux du sud de la Garonne, demand\u00e8rent \u00e0 \u00eatre s\u00e9par\u00e9s des Celtes peuplant la nouvelle province. Ce fut la cr\u00e9ation de la Novempopulanie.<\/p>\n

La Novempopulanie<\/h3>\n

Les 30 peuples gaulois furent alors regroup\u00e9s en quatre, cinq, neuf puis douze civitates (cit\u00e9s). Ainsi naquit, entre 10 avant JC et 14 apr\u00e8s JC, ce qui allait devenir l’Aquitania Novempopulana, c’est \u00e0 dire l’Aquitaine des neuf peuples dont porte t\u00e9moignage la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pierre de Hasparren (III\u00b0 si\u00e8cle). Cette st\u00e8le est visible \u00e0 la Mairie, sur rendez-vous mais la copie se trouve sous l’auvent de l’\u00e9glise.<\/p>\n
